Medical Declaration / Health and Safety
Any person having any session/s with Channel Kayaks must be medically fit to participate in the activity. If you have any medical conditions that may affect you in the activity, you must inform us before booking the session and ideally consult your GP.
What to Expect
You will be required to arrive early and queue up at the main reception. Please read your confirmation email for more information.
Please ensure that you have read the disclaimer before booking.
If you need to change then facilities are available on-site allowing you to do so. There are no showers available but male and female toilets and washing facilities are available. You will be given a safety briefing and short equipment identification session before getting to the fun part, exploring the river Avon and its wildlife upon a Katakanu.
Our school inside Avon Valley Park is located just passed the mini railway line. On site, we have a large changing room available for both Men and Women. The changing rooms are cleaned regularly and are also locked during your session so your valuables are safe.
We provide standard, high quality 50N buoyancy aids for children and adults but also have 100N life vests for junior paddlers and toddlers. We have 'shorty' wet-suits available free to borrow, which are washed after every session and dried ready for the next day. We do our best to accommodate for all sizes.
Maximum group size is up to 24 persons which allows for 6 persons per craft. The instructor ratio is 1 instructor per 2 craft / 12 persons. We currently have two instructors on site. If you have larger groups please contact us via the contact form. Please note that we may need to reduce the number of paddlers per craft on occasion (6 x 18 stone rugby players in one craft would be a problem)
What to wear
Your feet may get a little wet during your trip so we would advise either wet-boots, water shoes or old trainers for the lesson. Wear something comfortable, we have wet-suits available, but if you have your own? It would be a better fit. Please do not wear anything of value that you could possibly lose during the session.
All our participants MUST wear a PFD / Buoyancy Aid at all times!
We will contact you in cases of adverse weather or unsafe conditions. Once a session is booked, presume it will go ahead unless we contact you.
We must receive advance notice, 48 hours prior to the session start date. Channel Kayaks Ltd reserves the right to change the session type or cancel a session if adverse weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances cause a potential danger to persons or equipment. Any cancelled session will be rescheduled to another date and time.
If using vouchers, we will only reschedule the session if we have been given advance warning of up to 48 hours, unless the voucher has not been redeemed or is past its expiry date. If cancelled on the day, I'm afraid you will lose your activity slot.
We have a BBQ area at Avon Valley for private group bookings only (Stag, Hen parties, birthday groups and corporate). Please contact us to reserve this area. You will need to provide your own food and charcoal. If you do use our BBQ area, please tidy up after yourselves. Thank you.
Do you allow alcohol?
We will not allow anyone to participate if they are 'under the influence' as this is dangerous and a health and safety risk.
Do you have food on site?
Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park has a wonderful café, which serves hot food and drinks. After your activity, you are welcome to enter the café. Please be sure to wash your hands before consuming any food on site.

Please let us know if this is a problem. We will always do our best to respect your wishes.
